Choices (Essay)

In my younger days, my father always told me, "There will be many decisions you will encounter in life son, be sure to always make the wisest choice and not follow others blindly." I had an experience once that made me feel that the advice from my father had saved my life.
I was on a plane to New York to visit my family on a New Year's Eve. It was a lovely flight with exellent service. The passangers on board were rather friendly as well. A stranger stuck a conversation with me.
"So, where might you be going on a New Year's eve?" He inquired. "I'm visiting my family for a new year reunion'" I replied.
"Ah...i thought you were..." Before the man could finish his sentence, the plane started shaking violently. The atmosphere changed, the lights were flickering and screams filled the plane. Suddenly, i felt the plane plunge downwards. Grabbing hard on the seat in front of me, i held on to my dear life.
Opening my eyes, i saw many orange glowing lights, as my vision got clearer, the orange glows became a clear large fire around the plane. I grabbed my haversack and dashed out of the vehicle as fast as i could, fearing that it may explode. Surrounding the plane were trees spread kilometres away, there was no building in sight. I was lucky enough to find a survivor group adventuring out in the forrest not far from the wreckage. After travelling for what felt like a thousand miles, everyone was exhausted. The leader of the group instructed all of us to take out some food to share with the group. Reaching into my haversack, i pulled out a packet of biscuits. There was this one man who had nothing to share. The group leader felt that the man was a burden to the group and wanted to get rid of him. He picked up a large and heavy branch from the ground and slanmed it onto the man's leg. 'Crack' A large sound came from his leg, followed by a piercing scream. I was paralyzed in fear. "Why did you do that?" I asked hesitantly. "He has nothing to share! If he keeps depending on us to survive we will all die! He is a parasite!" The leader replied snobbishly with a sinister look in his face. I was afraid, this people were the people that could keep me alive, but they might do the same thing they did to the man to me. After much hesitation, i started running away from the group, abandoning them. I felt that i would have a better chance living on my own. It wad one of the hardest choices i had to make.
After several days of walking, i ran out of food and water. I was famished, as i staggered through the forrest clutching my stomach, i heard the most beautiful sound ever! The sound of flowing water never sounded so heavenly. I dashed towards the sound and there it was. The most beautiful river i had ever seen. As i drank from it, i felt so relieved. Things got better as i looked up. I saw a cottage sitting in the far distance. I ran towards it enthusaistically, its windows wide ajar, i could see its inhabitants, a cheerful old couple were having their dinner. I went inside for help, and they were more then happy to help me. They offered me some food before sending me to the city by car.
Heeding my fathers advice, i made the right choice in abandoning the group. I turned out to be the only survivor from the crash and the group was never found. If i had followed the group, i would definately not have survived.
